about us

What is "Kanon Acupuncture/English Conversation Salon"?

We renovated an ordinary three-story house in Mariko, Suruga Ward, Shizuoka City, and opened the salon in September 2019 for mainly friends and family. There is an English conversation salon on the first floor, and an acupuncture salon waiting room and examination room on the third floor. The two rooms on the third floor were originally children's rooms. In order to make use of the qualifications I obtained when I was a teacher (at age 51), I opened the salon while furthering my education at the Oriental Acupuncture Medical Association. I use my own experience of being saved both physically and mentally by acupuncture to do my best to provide the best care to my patients.

"Why combine acupuncture and English conversation?"

"Why combine acupuncture and English conversation?" I often get asked this question.
I guess you don't see the two combined often.

I majored in English education at university and studied abroad in the United States. I met a lot of people with different backgrounds.
During that time, I became interested in how people acquire language.
After that, I worked as an English teacher at a public high school until I retired in Japan.

During that time, I got married, and at the age of 29, in the final month of my first pregnancy, I developed facial nerve paralysis.
I was referred to a neurology department at a large hospital, and was told that massage would make it better, so I was sent home. After giving birth, I visited the doctor with severe pain in my ear, but I was told that it was "too late" and was referred to an ear, nose and throat department. I had many tests there, but the results were the same.

With a baby on my hands, I thought about committing suicide, but my father recommended acupuncture.
That was my first encounter with acupuncture. I went to a clinic for 7 years. I can't say I'm cured, but my life has become much easier.

I always wanted to know why I got this disease.
With the deregulation of school establishment, I found out that a night acupuncture school was opening near the school where I worked, so I attended the night school while working. I obtained a national qualification in acupuncture at the age of 51.
In September of the year I retired, I opened "Kanon Acupuncture/English Conversation Salon".
I am part of the Oriental Acupuncture Medical Society. It is a gentle but very effective acupuncture which is the polar opposite of the strong stimulation and electric acupuncture I have received.

What is important at an acupuncture salon?

  • We ask you to answer the questionnaire as much as possible in advance and consider possible diseases and meridians (locations) that are problematic from an Oriental medical perspective.
  • We actually examine your body and approach you in an effective way while limiting the number of needles.
  • At the time of your follow-up visit, we will consider the effect of the previous treatment and any shortcomings, and consider the approach method while examining your body.
I believe that a complete cure is difficult with acupuncture but We will do our best to make your body in a better condition so that you can live a better life.

What is important in an English conversation salon (Currently) It has been 6 years since we opened, and most of our customers are students preparing for exams or Eiken. If you come, we will do our best to accommodate you.
  • A common problem in Japan is that even though you studied English a lot at school, you can't understand or speak it. I think that's a waste. I want to bridge the gap between school English and conversational English.
  • We will create a program that suits each individual's abilities and time, such as self-introductions, family introductions, local introductions, and Japanese introductions (in English), conversations that are useful for traveling abroad, and conversations that are useful for homestays, according to your wishes.
  • We would like to break down the barriers to learning English by focusing on the differences between English pronunciation , rhythm and Japanese.
